I barely play Where Winds Meet these days. I won't deny that it was once an outstanding game, but looking back across the major updates, I can no longer see the original passion and vision that once defined the development team. The storyline has begun to fall apart, the worldbuilding has drifted toward some rather questionable territory, the character designs have grown increasingly unappealing, and one by one, my friends have quietly stopped logging in. At this point, I've simply run out of motivation to keep investing in the game.(2026-07-23)
Personally, I think the screenshots I took in the game are pretty good!

I'll be updating this post frequently because I've been really obsessed with this excellent game lately. These are straight-out-of-the-game (SOOC) shots, with no color grading or editing applied—just a simple capture with the in-game tool.
The Chinese servers of Where Winds Meet (燕云十六声) have recently launched the new Imperial Palace update. I have to say I’m quite fond of the tiger design for Zhao Kuangyin. There’s an old Chinese saying: “Being close to the emperor is like being beside a tiger”, and I wonder if the developers took this proverb into consideration when creating a tiger form that accompanies players in quests.
The dreamlike, reversed world sequences during the missions feature impressive modeling and visual effects. I’d recommend everyone give it a try. Personally, I’ve already completed all the new exploration and story content.
That said, I don’t think this is the best update so far. Shortly after launch, there were quite a few serious bugs. The overall immersion also felt lacking compared to previous versions. Most notably, the puzzle-solving gameplay that defined older map updates is missing. A lot of the exploration feels rushed and simplified, losing the thoughtful, in-depth, and thought-provoking puzzle experience the game used to offer.
The scenery and visuals are still decent, though. On balance, I’d give this update a 7.5/10.
